Inscriptions on the painting’s wood box, one painted on the lid, the other written on a front sticker, name two Japanese collectors: Lid: “Painted by Shen Kai, ‘Pair of Geese Beneath Willows.’  I obtained this in Tianjin, China, during the year 1910 of the Meiji era.  Ryuho Sanjin [Mountain Man of Dragon Peak].”    Front: “Pair of Geese beneath Willows,” with the collector given as Obata Jun’ichi.
